Last month, entries opened for the 2018 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition, with songwriters around the world encouraged to go into the running for a $50,000 cash prize. Now, APRA AMCOS has revealed that the comp is set to go for a few more weeks than first planned.

With entrants facing an initial deadline of 5pm on Wednesday, January 17th (today), APRA AMCOS has announced that the comp is now set to close on at 5pm on Thursday, February 15th. So you’ve got just under a month to finalise those beats, lay down those tracks, and buy some recording equipment.

The Vanda and Young competition is one of the world’s most coveted songwriting titles, with Gretta Ray scooping the crown last year for her banger ‘Drive’.

“The Vanda & Young prize made a huge impact on what I have achieved in the last year,” explained Gretta Ray. “It assisted me in being able to travel overseas to America, write and work on new music there with amazing people, and provided me with the time to wholly focus on my music. That in itself is a gift.”

This year’s panel members include three-time APRA Songwriter of the Year Daniel Johns, electronic artist and triple j host KLP, ARIA-winner Montaigne, and The Bamboos’ Lance Ferguson. Past winners of the Vanda & Young award are Megan Washington, Kimbra, Isabela Manfredi and Husky Gawenda.
