Rachel Maria Cox joins The Harbour Agency [EXCLUSIVE]

Rachel Maria Cox joins The Harbour Agency [EXCLUSIVE]

Newcastle-based artist Rachel Maria Cox, AWMA nominee and a stand-out at BIGSOUND 2018, has been snapped up for bookings.

TIO can exclusively announce Rachel Maria Cox is now represented by The Harbour Agency, part of The Mushroom Group of companies.

The non-binary singer-songwriter and “professional feelings haver” joins acts like Adalita, Dan Sultan, Delta Goodrem, Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins and The Veronicas on the roster.

The Harbour Agency‘s Jess Wust and Clinton Parkes will be handling RMC’s bookings.

The pair told TIO, “We are very excited to be welcoming Rachel Maria Cox to The Harbour Agency family, we have been fans of Rachel’s for a while. We can’t wait to see the amazing things we will achieve together.”

The signing comes just days before Rachel Maria Cox is set to officially release latest single ‘Time’ on Friday. The track made its premiere on Pilerats this week.

“‘Time’ reinforces to me the absolute necessity of what is called in DBT ‘radical acceptance’ – the idea that you have to take a good hard look at the reality of a situation and accept the way things are right now before you can do anything about changing that,” RMC said.

“I think all to often we can get caught up in ‘should’ thoughts about our life – ‘I should be thinner’ or ‘I should be able to just get over being dumped’,” they added. “‘Time’ is about getting rid of those ideas of what should be and accepting what is – it can be really scary to try and accept that maybe you’re just fine the way you are!”

Rachel Maria Cox is not only one of the most exciting acts to spawn from Australia’s emo-pop scene, they are also a dedicated activist for non-binary musicians as the founder of Sad Grrrls Club, a DIY label and booker aimed at promoting gender diversity.

In fact, in was RMC’s work with Sad Grrrls Club that earned them a nomination at the inaugural Australian Women In Music Awards, held earlier this month. RMC was up for the Diversity in Music Award, which recognises individual artists for their contribution to advancing a “culturally diverse and inclusive music industry.”
