Michael Jackson’s Estate extends Mijac administration agreement with Sony/ATV

The Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony/ATV Music Publishing have today announced a long-term extension of Sony/ATV’s global administration of Michael Jackson’s Mijac Music catalogue. Terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed fully.

Started by Jackson in 1980 as his personal music publishing company, Mijac Music became one of the biggest music catalogues in the world of music, including all of Jackson’s songs, the catalogue of Sly And The Family Stone, and many other songs, including tracks by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Elvis Presley.

In regards to the extension, Sony/ATV’s Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier said: “Michael Jackson’s Mijac catalog is one of the most significant and valuable in music. Michael’s songwriting talents are respected and admired by everyone, but I also want to acknowledge his gifts as a smart businessman who put together an incredible catalog of classic songs. His Estate continues to further his vision and we are privileged to be the administrators of such an important collection of songs.”

The first acquisition in Jakson’s catalogue came by way of Sylvester Stewart, best known as Sly Stone. After acquiring the catalogue of Sly And The Family Stone, Mijac went on to acquire the rights of a huge number of iconic songs from rock, pop, and soul, including Jerry Lee Lewis’ ‘Great Balls Of Fire’, Ray Charles’ ‘I Got A Woman’, and Jackie Wilson’s ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher.’
