The VANNS, The Nah confirmed for 2018 NSW regional Indent tour: Exclusive
If you’re young, you live in regional NSW, and you just wanna rock, then get ready. The VANNS and The Nah are on board for the 2018 Indent touring project, The Industry Observer can exclusively confirm.

An initiative of MusicNSW, the regional all-ages shows will swing into Bega, Moruya, Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Byron Bay in mid-to-late March 2018, with a lineup featuring Kiama indie-rockers The VANNS and Wollongong’s melodic progressive-punk outfit The Nah and others yet to be announced.

The Indent touring initiative was established to create opportunities for youngsters in regional spots to collaborate on the production, promotion, and staging of a live show and, of course, get a chance to catch some cracking performances. Young music biz hopefuls will get a taste of the live industry through a series of free workshops ahead of the gigs and, closer to the big day, an opportunity to learn promotion and marketing, sound check, ticketing and a whole lot more.

The five-date 2018 run kicks off March 16 in Bega and wraps March 25 in Byron Bay. “We’re all really excited for the Indent tour because we actually all grew up in regional towns,” explains The Nah’s bass player Belinda Quinn in a statement issued to TIO.  “While there are heaps of great aspects to growing up regional, I felt like I wasn’t really exposed to diverse artists. It would have been real cool to go to a show and see a woman get a bit shreddy on stage or to see some diverse genres being represented or even just be exposed to a bit of LGBT+ positivity. We’re also really excited for Bega because we’re really into cheese.”

The likes of Urthboy, In Hearts Wake, Hands Like Houses, Columbus, Tired Lion and Spit Syndicate have played on the Indent Tour in years past.

Regional touring is a growing business. Homegrown hip-hop artist Illy won best live artist at the ARIA Awards last month as he completed his first extensive regional tour while Elton John and Bryan Adams are among the big international acts who’ve committed to taking their show off the beaten track.
